Wanted

May 19th, 2005 by mellybean

Darth_tater_1Jay turned me on to Darth Tater on Monday. I looked for Darth Tater today and I couldn’t find him.  The girl that I talked to at Sprawl Mart told me that I should buy Darth Tater on Ebay.  Yeah, right … I don’t think so.  Toys ‘R’ Us chick told me that she gets at least four people per day looking for Darth Tater.  I get the feeling that Darth Tater has got to be the most sought after potato ever.  I can’t wait to get my hands on his tots.

Desk set

May 19th, 2005 by mellybean

My mom came to visit today.  She wanted to go to Tuesday Morning in Brookfield.  I had never heard of this store.  They are a closeout store for brands like Murano glass, Wedgwood china, Samsonite, Royal Doulton, and others.  We browsed for nearly an hour and saw many nice things.  I have been looking for a desk set for a long time, and I ended up buying one that I really like.  The set is black with padded Chinese silk accents.

Slumlord

I rented a third-floor flat a few years ago from this guy.  When the cold weather came that fall, I realized that I had no working furnace and no storm windows.  He finally had a new furnace installed in December, but it didn’t have enough juice in it to push the heat all the way up to my flat.  When I moved out in June, he failed to return my security deposit to me.  So I sued him and got back double the amount of money that he owed to me.  I’m really glad that the city has finally taken action against him.  He took advantage of so many people for far too long.

By the way, the house that I lived in was for sale within the last few months, but I can’t seem to find the listing online now.  Some other sucker must have bought the dump.

Petition

May 9th, 2005 by mellybean

I am a member of The Warehouse, the Dave Matthews Band fan association.  I have started a petition urging a change in the method of distribution for Warehouse tickets.  Unfortunately, tickets end up in the secondary market being sold for $$mucho dinero.  My petition urges the Warehouse to utilize will-call as a means of distribution, requiring buyers to pick the tickets up in person at the venue on the day of the show.

I am also a member of the Ten Club, the Pearl Jam fan association.  I happily pick up my Pearl Jam tickets at will-call at each show, and the tickets have always been great.

And today I found out that Coldplay is going to be at Alpine Valley on August 13.  I’m thinking that I’ll be there for that.  Oh yeah.

10 days

In a mere ten days, the wait for the final installment of Star Wars will be over.  I am happy to be able to see Episode III soon, and also sad that there will not be another Star Wars movie in the future.

Rate the five movies that preceded Episode III here.  My ratings are (5 is best, 1 is worst):

5.  Episode V:  The Empire Strikes Back

4.  Episode IV:  A New Hope

3.  Episode VI:  Return of the Jedi

2.  Episode II:  Attack of the Clones

1.  Episode I:  The Phantom Menace

Stubs.

I saw an ad in the back of Rolling Stone for Ticket Albums.

A Ticket Album is a book that you can use to keep your concert and sporting event ticket stubs together, if you’re into that sort of thing.  Up until now, I had been keeping my concert ticket stubs inside of the compact disc cases for each respective artist.  I was keeping my sporting event stubs in a photo album.

I was intrigued by the idea of a Ticket Album.  Upon further investigation of the Ticket Album, I noticed that many of the stubs shown as samples on the website were from venues in Wisconsin.  I called Ticket Album’s ordering line and found out that the albums are sold out at The Nine Point Star, a shop on the east side of Milwaukee less than three blocks away from the flat that I lived in seven years ago.  I visited the shop today, which, by the way, is a really cool hippie shop, and bought four ticket albums — two for me and two for my brother.  I also bought some vanilla incense.

South Beach Diet

April 17th, 2005 by mellybean

I started the South Beach Diet last week Monday, April 11.  Had I been on the ball, I would have started the blog at the same time…

Day One:  Monday started with a trip to the grocery store.  I bought vegetables, turkey bacon, ricotta cheese, and more vegetables.  And some other stuff too.  Cashews, sugar-free popsicles and fudgsicles, and Canadian bacon.  I made it through the first day on SB with no problems.

Day Two:  Tuesday was a challenge.  I made an egg white omelet for breakfast and it stuck all over the pan.  I was headachey almost all day.  I really wanted a cookie.  Things were going badly, but I’m proud to say that I stayed on SB.

Day Three:  On Wednesday, Jay and I went to Madison for dinner to celebrate his brother’s birthday.  We had a great meal at Fitch’s.  I ordered Walleye with Asparagus and a mixed green salad.  I had no bread and no birthday cake.

Day Four:  I believe that if you are doing something in order to bring about a positive change in your life, that if you can get past the third day, you’re in the clear.  There I was on Thursday, counting calories "for fun" and being really proud of myself.  Still on the SB wagon.

Day Five:  On Friday, I tried a new snack, the Mocha Frappe.  Kraft has a great section of their website that is devoted to SB.  I also joined a recipe group on Yahoo.  Jay and I went to Sprawl Mart tonight and picked up some new batteries for the scale.  Things are going along quite swimmingly here on SB.

Day Six:  I had my eye on the SB mashed potatoes recipe all week.  I was skeptical, to say the least.  The "mashed potatoes" are actually pureed steamed cauliflower with a bit of half & half and I can’t believe it’s not butter spray.  I teamed the "potatoes" with oven roasted vegetables and grilled NY strip steak.  Jay was on SB with me today, at least for dinner!

Day Seven:  It does not seem like I have been on SB for a week.  I don’t even feel like I’m on a diet.  I do not miss eating bread.  I do not miss eating sweets.  The more I learn about how bad that stuff is, the more I could kick myself for not changing my eating habits sooner.  Tonight I had the Almond Ricotta Creme for dessert.  So far it is my favorite of the ricotta cremes (also tried vanilla and mocha).

So those are my first seven days on SB in a nutshell.  I will keep you updated.
